Introduction

The purpose of this blog is to record the notes I will take during the training of Pacha, a young horse that his owner, a good friend of mine whom I will call F. on this site, is kindly letting me ride two times a week. Being on a half-boarding regime, Pacha is ridden in group lessons also, which include some jumping.

Pacha is a 5yrs old gelding from Iberian origin. He has no papers, but bears a mark ‘P’ on the right handside of the neck. He probably is not full PRE, and may have some TB blood.

Small in size (1.58m), he has nice looks. Short and compact body with good top line and short back, nice head with lovely eyes, . Good legs and feet. Slightly narrow in chest.Very warm and sensistive to aids (delicate mouth, highly responsive to legs). Good temper, easy in stable.

Our first contact took place mid-September. He had just arrived for a trial period. Was tested in lunge, then under saddle. Good energetic walk. Trot short and hasty. Canter somewhat disorderly. Did not stay still at halt. But on the whole, good impression: forward, sensitive, no faulty gaits, head set rather high. Good starting basis for proper dressage starting from not much further on than sheer breaking.
