Problem when getting on horseback. Moves backwards as soon as one takes the mane. Get some help from a friend who takes him by the bridle.
I try to get Pacha remain still at halt during a few seconds, with success. It is paramount to obtain standstill at halt.
Walk (10'):forward and energetic
Trot (15'): posting trot, hasty again at the beginning ('knitting' as the French say), but no defence against the hand.I find that 'Mains sans jambes, jambes sans mains' once again is a golden rule. Good pace on both hands. After a few minutes, Pacha 'unrolls' and stretches his strides which gain cadence and elasticity. He begins to get rounder with a lower neck. 'Cession de machoire' obtained with very light, unilateral hand indications. Reins, including draw reins, work with their own weight only (no visible tension). Back to walk, loose reins. Then I try sitting trot: the horse is contracted again and without cadence. I put him on circles to calm him down, without insisting.
I ask him a start at canter, no hands, external leg slightly backward, internal leg at girth. Pacha starts cantering without too much disorder. I realise that he is even more sensitive than I thought. Then I let him go into stronger canter across the whole arena, and his canter is improving into a lovely round and light gait - a wonderful surprise. Slight tendency to deviate haunches inside when on right hand.
Content with this nice performance, I dismount and we go back to stables.
